Protected Species Overview
Epsilon’s staff of ecologists have extensive experience guiding clients through the complex process of assisting clients avoid protected species concerns. When avoidance strategies are not possible and protected species or their habitats cannot be avoided. We have a record of accomplishment for devising creative and successful mitigation results. Protected species services that we can provide include the development of acceptable protocols and implementation of floristic/botanical and wildlife surveys to determine if rare species actually occur on a property. As is typical in most rare species surveys, we also map vegetation communities to understand the potential extent of unique and suitable protected species habitat. Following field studies, we then assess protected species impact potentially caused by a project using sophisticated GIS and GPS mapping techniques. As the final step in the regulatory process when protected species impacts are unavoidable, we then work aggressively to negotiate favorable mitigation strategies and develop acceptable conservation management plans that permit projects to move forward in a timely manner.
