Epsilon assisted in designing mitigation for noise impacts of an existing rock quarry on a nearby residential community. The mitigation included construction of 700 feet of earthen berm topped with a sound wall. Sound level measurements were made before and after installation of the berm/wall to confirm its effectiveness. Epsilon collaborated with the site civil engineer to provide the location, dimensions, and appropriate materials for the berm/wall construction.

Epsilon assisted in designing noise mitigation from a wood waste reclamation facility on Cape Cod. The use of 20-foot high on-site material stockpiles were used as noise control for the front-end loader, screens, and grinding equipment. The mitigation design was reviewed and approved in advance by the MA DEP. Sound level measurements were made before and after installation of the material stockpiles to confirm its effectiveness. The testing results demonstrated greater than a 95 percent sound level reduction on an energy basis.

Epsilon prepared a noise impact assessment report for a 1500 kW emergency generator as part of a Massachusetts DEP Air Plans Approval. This Project included an ambient background monitoring program, sound level modeling of future impacts, and noise control recommendations to meet the State noise policy. Epsilon collaborated with the mechanical engineers on mitigation of the fuel combustion exhaust, air flow intake and exhaust to the generator room, and the radiator exhaust from the engine. Noise control included a critical grade silencer, acoustical louvers, relocation of the radiator to a remote location, and elimination of one air intake louver.
