Epsilon completed a detailed salt marsh function and values assessment for a proposed liquefied natural gas import terminal located in Fall River, MA.  Proposed shoreline stabilization measures at the project site would have resulted in the permanent alteration of approximately 2,000 s.f. of fringe salt marsh habitat along the shore of the Taunton River.  To evaluate the affect of this impact, a functional assessment was completed using the procedures described in “The Highway Methodology Workbook” (USACE, 1993) and “The Highway Methodology Workbook Supplement (Workbook Supplement) (USACE, 1999)”. Functions evaluated by Epsilon included groundwater recharge/discharge, fish and shellfish habitat, sediment/toxicant retention, nutrient removal, production export, sediment/shoreline stabilization, and wildlife habitat.
