Groundbreaking Held for First Light Casino Project
April 7, 2016
On Tuesday, April 5, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe broke
ground on their First Light Resort and Casino in Taunton, MA.
In addition to a casino, the project will include hotels,
restaurants, shopping and an entertainment venue. The project
is being constructed on a 151-acre site, which was recently
taken into trust by the federal government on behalf of the
Tribe. The casino is expected to open in the summer of 2017.
Epsilon was excited to be represented at the groundbreaking,
which is an important milestone for the Tribe and their efforts toward self-determination and economic development. Epsilon has been an integral member of the project development team, serving as the lead environmental consultant since 2011. Epsilon has assisted the Tribe in all aspects of the project, including site selection, due diligence, preparation of the National Environmental Policy Act EIS for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, MEPA documentation, as well as leading the state and federal wetlands permitting effort.
