POSITION SUMMARY

Epsilon is seeking a versatile GIS Specialist to work as part of our well-respected team. This position reports directly to the GIS Manager.

The GIS Specialist is responsible for helping direct company-wide GIS and graphics workflows, developing GIS analyses and map products, and maintaining our internal GIS database. Technical responsibilities for this full-time (40 hours/week) position include spatial analysis, cartography, database development, and graphics generation to support report submissions and project presentations. Daily tasks will include GIS analyses, map making, constructing complex graphics for regulatory filings, and data manipulation. The ability to manage multiple deadlines and reprioritize tasks while maintaining a friendly, professional attitude is a must.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of geographic concepts, file structures, coordinate systems, and database development standards. Expertise in Esri GIS software (ArcGIS Desktop, Pro, and Online) is required. AutoCAD experience with regards to plan preparation, editing, and GIS integration is highly desirable. Experience with Python scripting, online mapping, Collector, Survey123, Field Maps, Trimble GPS devices, and 3D visualization is also a plus.

Candidates should possess strong graphics skills, including familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft PowerPoint, web-based content, and other design software. Candidates should also be motivated to tackle design and overall computational challenges, and must be very comfortable working with various graphic and multimedia file formats in a Windows environment. The fast-paced nature of the position requires an eagerness to learn new applications and skills as well as the capacity to troubleshoot system issues.

The successful candidate should have a bachelor’s (B.A./B.S.) or graduate degree (M.A./M.S) in Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Geography, Environmental Analysis, or other relevant major, and at least 2-3 years of professional experience in environmental consulting or a closely related field. Certification as a Geographical Information Systems Professional (GISP) is a major plus. The position requires excellent visual presentation skills and equally strong communication skills, as this person works cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary project team. Approximately 80% of the time would be working independently.

WORKING CONDITIONS IN WHICH THE DUTIES ARE PERFORMED

Ideally the successful candidate will reside in New York State preferably near the Capital region (Albany), however, remote and/or hybrid work options within New York State will be considered.

In this position, candidates must be able to work on a computer screen for extended periods of time. Additional hours may be needed from time to time to meet an aggressive deadline.
