Energy Engineer / Planner - Sustainability

Epsilon Associates, a strategic environmental permitting, consulting and engineering firm based in Maynard, Massachusetts, is seeking a mid-level Energy Engineer or Energy Planner to work in our Maynard, Massachusetts office.

Position Description

 

Epsilon Associates is seeking a fulltime energy engineer or energy planner to support our sustainability practice.  The successful candidate will work on various environmental consulting tasks, including:

​

  • Greenhouse gas, energy efficiency, and sustainability analyses to support Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) and Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) filings for commercial real estate and other projects;

​​

  • Energy modeling, coordination, and review, including managing architectural and mechanical teams to align projects with regulatory goals;

 

  • Calculation of energy impacts of using various mitigation reduction strategies, including enhanced building envelopes, electric HVAC systems, and on-site renewable energy potential; and

​​

  • Assisting clients in documenting LEED status and recommending strategies to obtain sufficient LEED points for various levels of certification. 

 

Qualifications

 

Depending on fit, the candidate could lead Epsilon into new sustainability practice areas, including Energy Modeling and/or LEED Certification Project Management (including under LEED for Homes).


The successful candidate will be able to:

​

  • Interact with mechanical engineers, energy modelers, and architects;

​

  • Understand the workings of building energy modeling using eQuest or similar software;

​

  • Review building energy modeling results and technical memos by others for consistency with project plans, LEED requirements, building energy code requirements, and regulatory scope requirements;

​

  • Summarize technical requirements from environmental regulations, NEPA, MEPA and BPDA scoping documents, and application forms;

​

  • Interact with clients in the real estate, energy, and industrial sectors;

​

  • Write clear and persuasive reports that address regulatory or scope requirements and are tailored to the audience (client, regulator, or public); and

​​

  • Manage time and effort across multiple projects for different clients.

 

The ideal candidate will have 1) 5-10 years of experience in an engineering, planning, sustainability or environmental consulting environment, 2) a bachelor’s degree in engineering, urban planning, architecture, or a similar field, 3) LEED AP accreditation, 4) an interest in energy-efficient building design, 5) superior written and oral communication skills, and 6) proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
