Energy Engineer / Planner - Sustainability
Epsilon Associates, a strategic environmental permitting, consulting and engineering firm based in Maynard, Massachusetts, is seeking a mid-level Energy Engineer or Energy Planner to work in our Maynard, Massachusetts office.
Epsilon is one of the best known and most respected environmental consulting firms in the Northeast. Epsilon’s client base includes major commercial real estate, institutional, energy, and residential developers, as well as public agencies. As a mid-sized firm, we are large enough to support our team members professionally and personally, and small enough to keep our focus on project successes and client satisfaction. Epsilon is privately held by its Principals, who are experts in their fields and work side-by-side with staff of all levels on complex, high-profile projects.
Epsilon Associates is seeking a fulltime energy engineer or energy planner to support our sustainability practice. The successful candidate will work on various environmental consulting tasks, including:
Greenhouse gas, energy efficiency, and sustainability analyses to support Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) and Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) filings for commercial real estate and other projects;
Energy modeling, coordination, and review, including managing architectural and mechanical teams to align projects with regulatory goals;
Calculation of energy impacts of using various mitigation reduction strategies, including enhanced building envelopes, electric HVAC systems, and on-site renewable energy potential; and
Assisting clients in documenting LEED status and recommending strategies to obtain sufficient LEED points for various levels of certification.
Depending on fit, the candidate could lead Epsilon into new sustainability practice areas, including Energy Modeling and/or LEED Certification Project Management (including under LEED for Homes).
The successful candidate will be able to:
Interact with mechanical engineers, energy modelers, and architects;
Understand the workings of building energy modeling using eQuest or similar software;
Review building energy modeling results and technical memos by others for consistency with project plans, LEED requirements, building energy code requirements, and regulatory scope requirements;
Summarize technical requirements from environmental regulations, NEPA, MEPA and BPDA scoping documents, and application forms;
Interact with clients in the real estate, energy, and industrial sectors;
Write clear and persuasive reports that address regulatory or scope requirements and are tailored to the audience (client, regulator, or public); and
Manage time and effort across multiple projects for different clients.
The ideal candidate will have 1) 5-10 years of experience in an engineering, planning, sustainability or environmental consulting environment, 2) a bachelor’s degree in engineering, urban planning, architecture, or a similar field, 3) LEED AP accreditation, 4) an interest in energy-efficient building design, 5) superior written and oral communication skills, and 6) proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
Epsilon offers the opportunity to participate in a range of challenging, high-profile projects, helping our clients make innovative and forward-thinking improvements to the built environment.
Our team members enjoy regular opportunities for professional growth, a relaxed and flexible work environment, a competitive base salary, 401k plan with a generous company match, profit sharing, an annual performance bonus program, and a full benefits package.
