Epsilon Completes Article 10 Permitting on NextEra’s East Point Energy Center

Renewable energy generated from natural sources, such as sunlight, wind, and battery storage continues to grow in importance and need. Epsilon is a leader in the field providing a full suite of environmental analysis, licensing, permitting and compliance evaluation services for renewable energy developers, utilities, independent power producers, and industrial clients. Epsilon is currently supporting dozens of renewable energy projects throughout the Northeast including New York State.

New York is actively developing wind and solar projects in order to meet the state’s goal of a zero-emission electricity sector by 2040, including 70 percent renewable energy generation by 2030. These renewable energy projects over 25 MW must comply with New York's Article 10 permitting regulations. Epsilon's noise experts have been working with clients on New York State wind farm and solar projects as they proceed through the Article 10 permitting process.

One particular project was for the NextEra Energy Resources East Point Energy Center, LLC. As part of Epsilon’s work, our acoustics team led a comprehensive, two-season, ambient sound level monitoring program. An extensive sound modeling analysis was also carried out, in order to evaluate potential impacts from the project on the surrounding community in support of the Article 10 permitting process. In January 2021, the 50 MW energy center received approval from the New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment allowing the project to move into construction. This proposed project located in Sharon, New York, will create more than 120 construction jobs paying $6.4 million in wages.

New York remains very active with renewable energy development and Epsilon's intrinsic knowledge of the Article 10 process has been instrumental in guiding developers through these regulations.
