National Park Service Features Salem Jail as Case Study
March 1, 2013
The National Park Service has featured the Salem Jail historic tax credit project as a case study on their Technical Preservation Services website. Epsilon assisted New Boston Ventures in securing state and federal historic tax credits for the Salem Jail and the Jail Keeper’s house. The project includes twenty-three housing units and a restaurant located on the ground floor. The case study highlights how the redevelopment successfully retained the historic character of these two very distinct structures.
In recognition of the project’s success, it received a “Timmy Award” from the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association for the Best Mixed Income or Market Rate Residential Category. In addition, the project has been honored with preservation awards from the Massachusetts Historical Commission, Preservation Massachusetts and Historic Salem, Inc.
