Epsilon Associates, Inc., an employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm based in Maynard, Massachusetts, is seeking one or more full-time Wetland Scientists experienced in wetland delineation and assessment and regulatory permitting to work as part of the Epsilon team on a wide variety of public and private projects. Openings exist for qualified individuals at both the entry to mid-level (0-5 years) and more senior (5 years or more) levels.
The position requires a BS degree in Wetland Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or a closely related natural resource science degree. A MS degree is preferred. Registration as a Professional Wetland Scientist by the Society of Wetland Scientists, wetland scientist certification by the State of New Hampshire, and/or certification as a Certified Wildlife Biologist by The Wildlife Society is a plus.
0-5 years (junior to mid-level) or 5+ years (mid-level to senior) experience working in environmental consulting or similar professional work;
wetland delineation (including ability to delineate independently), function and value assessments, vernal pool surveys, wildlife habitat assessments, wetland restoration & replication planning/design, and construction oversight/inspection;
understanding of federal, state and local environmental statutes and regulations;
superior writing and oral communication skills;
proven ability to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously as part of a multidisciplinary project team;
strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
working knowledge of GIS and GPS survey; and
wetlands permitting experience in Massachusetts or other New England states is required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
wetland resource area delineations and other ecological field work, including wildlife habitat assessments, functions and values assessments, site inspections, wetlands mitigation design, and GPS survey work;
preparation of technical reports and permit applications under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and other applicable wetlands regulatory programs;
Presentation of permit applications in a public meeting setting; and
Construction period erosion and sediment control inspections and reporting, construction oversight, and regulatory compliance evaluations and reporting.
Work assignments may require physically demanding fieldwork in a challenging environments and weather conditions, and may require local and regional travel, including overnight travel.
